Description

A recoloring of a picture I did a little while ago...

Pictured here is the 32nd EcAr (EcoArtillery) battery of heavy howitzers (known collectively as "Mar's Hammer") waiting for orders to commence the bombardment of a metalhead wasteland stronghold. In the foreground is the captain, crunching sines and cosines in his head while he listens to the stream of coordinates crackling from his radio drone. Haven's heavy howitzers utilize large quantities of red eco to propel 500 lb shells over 28 miles. Being so saturated in red eco, the shells' kinetic energy is increased ten-fold and are capable of penetrating fifty feet of metalhead barrier stone.
The howitzers are mounted on an A-Grav chasis adopted from Haven's heavy a-grav tank chasis, so they are quite mobil. When they depoly to fire, the spike rims in the front and back rotate down to secure the firing platform to the ground.
The howitzers produce a subsantial amount of red eco residew when they fire, so everything around the guns gets a healthy coating of eco over time - including the gun crews. Being exposed to red eco regularly has stained the crewmen's skin red and conveniently has made them strong enough to lift and handle the shells with ease. The reloading process is impressively swift, the only part that takes any real amount of time is flooding the gun chamber with eco, which takes about 35-40 seconds. During this time the gun is sighted, so that by the time the chamber is full, everything is ready. The gunner then releases the firing mechanism, which destablizes the red eco, and boom - shells away. The whole process takes a mere 40-45 seconds. Utilizing elevated and attack angles, the best howitzer crews can have two shells arrive on a target and the same time.
